A DC to DC converter is an electronic circuit which converts a source of Direct Current (DC) from one voltage level to another. They are widely used to step up 12V to 24V and also to step down 24V to 12V. they are very efficient and save the cost of buying additional batteries. They are particularly useful in 24V systems where a 12V supply is required. You could tap off from one of the batteries but this will lead to imbalance on the 24V battery bank and will cause premature failure. Using a DC – DC Converter will discharge the 24V bank evenly whilst supplying a constant 12V output whether the 24V bank is charged or discharged. |
